Over the past few years my style of painting has evolved. My hope is to continue to evolve as I develop and grow as an artist and as a person. If I were to give my current artistic approach a label, it would have to be Conceptual Realism. I try to take my abilities in artistic technique and combine them with my individual experiences in order to visually express my thoughts, ideas and concerns as a person, as a human being, often incorporating elements of image symbolism and visual storytelling.
Many of my paintings explore the everyday condition of humanity with the individual as subject: the internal and external struggles wrestled with on a daily basis—the varied and wide-ranging expressions of emotion. The subjects strive to attain, through daily life-struggle, a sense of self-awareness, self-identity, self-knowledge, self-acceptance, and finally self-love. It is only from this philosophy of Self that an individual can properly, fully and confidently present himself to and engage himself with the world around him. Even when there are no humans present there is an attempt to express our human connection with the world around us through sensory experience.
Another commonality many of the subjects in my paintings share is an underdog quality, rather than the already glorified champion. I personally connect more with art that, to me, hints at this view. I feel that the underdog represents most of us, all striving to be better, to be more… despite odds placed against us. Although we hardly ever attaining our idealized selves, we never stop pursuing that theless always pursuing a feeling of true happiness.
